The Palette

The palette, in one place: Calacatta Luxe, light oak, San Selmo reclaimed brick, aged brass and white VJ. We wanted it light and natural, and we love the way warm stone, oak and brass sit together. Chosen to age well rather than to date. The brick has a head start on that.

Light Oak

We wanted a light, natural palette, and we kept the list short: Calacatta Luxe stone, light oak, San Selmo reclaimed brick, aged brass, white VJ panelling, and a warm sand tile laid in herringbone. Five materials and one tile. That's the whole house. It repeats on purpose. The stone runs the benchtops, the splashback, the entry credenza and the vanities. The oak is the floors, the joinery, the stair and the pivot wall. The brick carries the fireplace, the entry and the chimney, and the curved garden wall is recycled brick as well. The brass is on every tap in the house. From the front door to the back deck, no room introduces a material the rest of the house doesn't use.We love aged brass and warm stone and oak, and we love what time does to them. Brass goes dark where hands land and stays bright where they don't. Oak wears in. The brick did its weathering decades ago in someone else's wall, so it cannot date, it already has. The stone is calm enough to live behind a working kitchen without competing with it.A short palette costs you the feature wall and the statement tap. We did not miss either. What you get back is a house that reads as one decision.

Five materials and one tile. That is the whole house.
